Artist Statement:

I have always been fascinated by the rhythm of words in various forms. Phrases, lyrics and poetry offer an abundance of inspiration for me. I am motivated by the challenge of abstracting these words and re-creating them into another art form. I mine my own artistic history by reusing scraps of old calligraphic pieces of art and background washes, using these things to create something new from something old.  I work intuitively, creating a dialogue between the history of my own lettered fragments and the fluidity and the opacity of the paint.  Drawing from Abstract Expressionism I attempt to achieve a balance between painterly gesture and the physicality of a pasted collage fragment.
